By the time you read this, the three broods of 17 year Cicadas may have already emerged. The 3 species of Magicicada all live underground for 17 years and emerge for a few weeks to breed and die in May when the ground temperature hits 64 degrees. The big species, septendecim, gets almost as big as your thumb, pupates on a low lying deciduous tree trunk or branch, and then flies off screaming at 100 decibels until they mate and die. There will be 1 billion of them per square mile in wooded areas.

They tqaste like soft shell crab and cold asparagus and make great fish food. Collect the newly pupated ones and freeze them or incorporate them into your homemade fish food. they are super nutritious and full of 17 years worth of minerals and clean vegetable matter. Fish and lots of burrowing animals love to eat them and several Native American tribes roast them.

Seriously, they are a cheaper, better, safer and cleaner live food than most feeder fish or worms.
