When I originially posted this in Reef Discussion in March, there were about 15 staw colored sponges of some type that emerged from a single live rock. They have now covered about 3/4 of the rock and have branched considerably. There are no thicker than a ballpoint pen refill, have no obvious holdfasts, and some seem to be slightly wider and rounder at their ends. They are sessile, only move with the tank current, apparently will not colonize any other rock, and are completely ignored by my fish. So far the closest I've come to an identification is some type of Rope Sponge. Anyone have any other suggestions?
