Cichlid Profiles - Sapayo Cichlid
 

A sapayensis, the Sapayo Cichlid or Gold Acara is an Acara often mistaken for a Green Terror as a juvenile, or a Blue Acara as an adult. They live on the West Coast of Equador. The ground color is yellow-green-brown to yellow gold to to blue-black. They have the typical Acara midbody blotch, often surrounded by white or yellow lines. The forehead is maroon or wine colored and the chin is white or covered with typical Acara wormlike sqiggles. The dorsal fin may have iridescent blue-green pearls and there may be more scattered on the body. Some have 3 lateral thin yellow lines. They do not have the usual Acara caudal peduncle spot.

They are midly aggressive, get 8 inches long and lay 100-200 eggs on flat surfaces. Thery are good parents.
