I was doing DIY CO2 for a while and used whatever tubing I had and just stuck an air stone on it and put it near the substrate surface
Can't say that it did much
I got tired of making the liquid and smelling it so switched to Excel
Then I learned about using MetriCide in place of Excel and am having very good results at a much cheaper cost
my tank is constantly a jungle
