Nx week I need a cheap fish for tank ; suggest ions ?

it is only a 15 gal so you r only going to be able to put in 3 or 4 small fish
so most damsels r hardy percula or ocelaris clowns r good if you keep a watch on your ammonia during the cycle |
My live rock appears to be turning brown. To much light ??? How many hours for soft corals .

brown algae
algae needs a few things to grow
First is light which you r going to have plenty of in a reef the second is nutrient( detritus) too much food, that settles to the bottom the third is when there is not enough flow you also said you got water your freinds tank, not alway as good as it sounds you do not know the makeup of his water. the nitrate and such Do a good water change. but expect some algae another factor is the age of the bulbs, old bulbs cause algae |
Thanks for the advice ; the water he gave me was new not from tank , 2 I don't know how old theses bulbs are ,3 only 1fish in tank and fed sparingly , BUT I have cut down on the light from12 to 7 hours <*\\\><

do u have live rock or live sand
with new water you r going through a cycle r u testing |
if u do not know how old bulb is then time to change
if you r doing a reef you need a reef light not a reg flor. and if you do not have live rock or coral you do not need so much lighting time |
I have a 4 bulb reef t5 - 2 blue and 2 white which I read simulated dawn and dusk and day sunlight as the are two switches on the fixture . I have live rock/ sand - 1 clown and 1 green star polyp , everything is doin fine right now , the clown is in the tank since Sunday. I haven't tested the water for anything yet as I don't no what to test for , if it's nitrates well there's really nothing in the tank to spike nitrates and I do not have any test kits the clown fish is testing and helping withe the cycle 😎👍

It seams like you heading in the right direstion
as far as nitrate any new tank gets them keeping them low is the trick reefs should be below about 10 ppm all new tanks will cycle, so kee pup with the water changes i assume the fixture is used if so you should replace the bulbs. 7-8 hours a day is good the blues coming on first and shutting off last try to pick out corals that do not need alot of light and grow slow as it is only a 15 gal |
Thanks for the advice Steve and I will change those bulbs 👍🐟🐙
