Starfish
Are starfish safe for the reef tank. I saw at Chocolate Chip at a local store and the guy told me that starfish are a no no for a reef tank. The thing is that I've seen starfish at my friends tank and he said they are just fine. I'm confused.

Some starfish are reef safe, but I am not crazy about them in a reef.
I had a britle starfish in my reef it didn't bother any coral it just ate my fish at night. I was missing fish one at a time, untill I finally saw him eating one. They are very hard to catch, I had to set a trap with shrimp. The linkia starfish are safe, but not very hardy. Keep in mind most starfish should not be exposed to air, so keep them under water at all times. Watch the store when they bag them. |

Chocolate Chip star will eat you corals just like most starfish will. The only starfish I would add is the linkia but they will climb every where and knock corals over which will in return drive you nuts especially when it falls in the back of your tank behind the Live Rock and you end up pulling everything out to retrive it... I speak from past experience...:D Thanks, Eddie |
linkia are not the hardyest either, and they are one that should never be exposed to air. If your pet store does expose it to air don't buy it, this usually means a slow death.
