Salt water

How can you utilize the water from the ocean or sea in your reef aquarium?

Aquarists Online has a webage on Should You Use Natural Sea Water in Your Aquarium? They seem to think it is OK if you can gather it in a non-polluted area of the ocean, preferably not near the beach. Unless you live on a tropical island, it can be rather bulky and costly to transport, however.

you never want to collect water near any beach or shore.
the beach is where all the pollunts wash up, the shore is like a protein skimmer
if you are able to collect from a ways out, where the water is clean then it can be used.
you would have to still filter it and run it through carbon, to remove the impurities.
too much work 4 me.
