backround for salt

Does anybody know a better way to install a backround on a saltwater tank.
The salt always get behind the bakround, and it looks terrible.

I've seen people paint the back of the tank but I've always felt it's not the cleanest, although I've seen some decent jobs when people pay attention to details. I myself apply black adhesive vinyl to my tanks and it looks sharp, the vinyl is resistant to saltwater and it will stay on the tank for years without any problems. It can be removed easily if one desired and had access to the back of the tank. The truth is that withing couple of years most of the background will not be visible because of coraline growth in a normal reef environment.

Vinyl is great, you can always just peel it off using a hair blower and applly a different color if you are bored.

Vinyl looks great but I always get bubbles when applying it. What's the catch?

You have to take it easy with vinyl and apply from one side. Pull the liner as you go squeeging back and forth with a credit card or something similar. I get mine on perfectly.

Alternatively you can mix a solution of water and dishwashing soap (about a drop to a quart) and spray that on the glass. Apply vinyl and "massage" the water from under the vinyl. This allowes vinyl to be repositioned and any trapped air to escape before the aghesive sets.

Nice, I'll give it a try next time.
