A 2 YR. STUDY OF ALGAL GROWTH WITH F40F12 LIGHTS
I HAVE RUN 4 COMMONLY USED 55 GALLON FLUORESCENT TUBES 12 HOURS DAILY FOR 2 YEARS IN SIMILAR TANKS. THESE ARE THE RESULTS FOR ALGAL GROWTH.
1. PETLAND STANDARD 55 GALLON FLOURESCENT- ACCEPTABLE GREEN ALGAE GROWTH IF NOT EXPOSED TO SUNLIGHT, OTHERWISE ALGAL GROWTH MODERATE TO SEVERE. 2. PHILLIPS 40 WATT NATURAL SUNLSHINE- AS ABOVE. 3. OTT LITE VISION SAVER 4 FOOT FLOUPRESECENT - NO ALGAL GROWTH AT ALL. 4. PHILLIPS PLANT AND AQUARIUM- EXTREME ALGAL GROWTH UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, UNACCEPTABLE WHEN EXPOSED TO NATURAL SUN. I'd be interested to see pictures of your setup and some more info on testing methology.

would it not be fair to assume that the different lights causing algae growth would have different affects on plant life. This doesn't seem to address depth of penetration either. I would defiantly require more information before i accepted the blanket 4 line statement.

I have to agree with you.
