Cichlid Profiles - Arrow Cichlid
Amphilophus zaliousus, The Arrow Cichlid, is an elongate super aggressive Midas offshoot that looks like a large Convict Cichlid. It has 7 very thick black vertical bars on a silver - grey ground color, and mature indivudals may be nealy pich black It is endemic to Lake Apoyo which it shares with 5 other Midas offshoots. It is an endangered species which has been extensively studied for its behavior and genetics. They get up to 10 inches long they like temperature of 78-82 and pH of 6.5-7.5.
They have been bred in captivity, although they will kill each other as soon as mate. They hate all other species. Jeff Rapps has the best pictures, and there are pictures at "Images of Amphilophus zaliosus," but not all are accurate.
