Which of the various forms of bulk carbon is most effective at adsorbing aquarium waste?
I have seen it said that burned bone is best because it is porous so has more surface area on which things can stick and I would imagine the same claim is made for burned. Coconut shells. If this is true then it would seem that crushed coal would be less effective.

I've always used activated carbon except recently. More water changes and less filtration.
