Cichlid Profiles - Apistogramma angayuara
This is a 'phantom" dwarf cichlid as it was collected over 25 years ago and now a dam covers its habitat, so no one knows what it looks like except for the washed out museum specimens. The possible captive ones have dark bodies with copper colored fins, but there is some confusion over whether it a variant of A. pertensis.
It lives or lived in the Rio Trombetas on the northern side of the Amazon. It is very small, 2 inches for a male and 1.6 for a female. It is an insectivore-carnivore, and a polygamous breeder.
