Default gfci

all tanks or pond should be hooked up to a gfci to prevent electrical shock
any water within 3 feet of an outlet must be hooked to a gfci as code in NYC

thats fine but a gfci and a reset or braeaker are 2 different thing as I explain before
FIRE COMES FROM OVERLOADING A CIRCUIT
the wire can not handle the amount of current going through them

I have a titanium grounding probe in the sump that covers any leaks.

Problem is that I've heard of people loosing tanks with GFI. Esentially if you have a faulty pump or a heater and there is a small electrical leak the GFI protected circut would cut off electricity. What do you do if this happens in the AM and you wont see that your tank is dying when you are at work?

I have a small pump that I do water changes with, It works 90% of the time but sometimes the impeler gets stuck and it triggers my GFI in the kitchen. I for one wouldnt want my tank to go completely off if one of these little powerheads was to malfunction.

Default gfci

yes they can have draw back too
even a breaker can trip and cause problems if u r not around
as far as the grounding probe they is to take stray current out of the water more to protect your fish then u
if u drop a light in the water and reach in for it the grounding probr is not going to do s----

I don't think I would reach in for the fixture without pulling the cord out....but you definitely have a point.

neither did i, untill i did and nothing happen to me the gfci kicked off. otherwise I wouild not be writing this letter.
i have also had a heater crack and kicked off the gfci, yes the tank was off,but if I would have reached in for something and not known I would be toast.
