Default SIG's in retail stores

An interesting development led to a new slant on Special Interest Group meetings. Bill Amely was asked to speak to customers in a new retail aquarium store in Manhattan. The store is FAUNA located on West 87 Street between Broadway and 10th Ave. Bill was asked to speak to customers about the basics of setting up aquariums and what not to do during that process. Bill was there from 6- 8 PM and there were 7 - 10 people in attendance. Naturally Bill plugged the issue of joining an aquarium society to obtain maximum information and less problems with your aquariums.

Bill brought up a valid question in - why don't we have similar seminars in the stores that are sponsors of BAS? This will be brought up at the Board meeting tonight. Another vehicle for educating aquarists and helping small retail stores in the process.

GREAT IDEA. I know Petland Discounts is a sponsor of BAS and they have a location on 14th st that has a party room and a large basement that can house a decent amount of people for something like this. One problem with this would be that alot of people that get into fish aren't hobbyist but people who want a beautiful tank without the work or knowledge and its hard to communicate to these people that they have to go through a process that takes time. But having a seminar would be a great way to start that process of teaching people.
